Bad Oscar Test Results

Keep praying it does help. The guan yin temple at Waterloo is very accurate
Also can ask your hubby to do home cleansing while you go shopping first. Very good at cleaning away negative energy from home. Can check out sacredsagesg

Hi, just want to share my experience.

My 1st gynae proposed that I go for Oscar Test some time in Apr this year and as 1st time parents, we thought that this is a "Must Do" to for DS screening. My results for Oscar was not ideal (NT: 3.7mm and risk of 1:19).
I was devastated and couldn't go to work for 2 days. My gynae then suggests that I go for the amino test to get a more accurate results. However, as this is an invasive procedure, there is a risk of miscarriage. We did not want to take the risk as we have read about cases where the procedure ended up in a miscarriage but the baby is actually normal.

We did more research online and read about Dr Ananda Kumar practising at Camden Medical Centre and we decided to seek his opinion. After 2 scans with him, he assured me that the risk of me having a DS baby is actually lower than the risk of miscarriage if I decide to go ahead with the test.

After much deliberation, we decide to not go for the test and trust Dr Ananda Kumar's analysis.

I just delivered on 1 Oct 13 and my baby girl is perfectly fine!

Do read up more before making a decision. As far as I am aware, there are indeed a lot of false negative results. OSCAR Test is just a screening of the probability of having a DS child. Is it not a test of whether the child is indeed DS.

Hi kfgoh,
I would recommend harmony blood test as it is non invasive. As oscar test is just an indication of risk level, I think you won't want to put your bb at risk by going thru amino. For me, thank god that my harmony blood test come back with low risk result and I just went for 20 weeks detailed scan also no sign of DS, development is good.

Be positive and keep praying. I believe God will bless your bb.
Hi, I'm 35 and 11 weeks pregnant ,and doctor ask me to opt between Oscar or harmony the next time I see her, in 2 weeks time. We're thinking to do Oscar first since harmony is kinda expensive but don't want to get worried unnecessarily if result is not good. From this forum seems its not that accurate. Should we save the worry and spend the money by going straight to harmony? Another issue the doc highlighted was also that Oscar can give false negative results, which means baby has ds and we'd only find out much later. Anyone goes straight to do harmony? Any opinions appreciated!

hi carol_sg,

is really up to u.. oscar scan is juz a scan that check risk of DS but not determine it.. my oscar result came back oso not ideal and it got be tense and worried.. gynae offerred 3 options to me which is amniocentesis, harmony and none of the above..it took me a week before decided on harmony test.. and im waiting for my result.. hopefully everything turns out well..

I have not visit this thread since the day I found out my baby has DS. My husband and I painfully opted to terminate the pregnancy. Unexpectedly, I'm pregnant again after 6 month and yet to perform OSCAR.

My OSCAR for previous pregnancy was 1:12. While the scan looked fine, blood test tells me otherwise. I did the amino in NUH, when the result showed +ve DS, I went for 2nd time amino at Thomson to verify. Result was the same.

I would suggest if your OSCAR result is as worrying as mine, go for amino or cvs. Unless you are sure would keep your baby no matter what happened with him/her, save the $ for further treatment. My friend's OSCAR was 1:100+ she did not go for amino and her baby is healthy.

Any mummies consider to buy life insurance plan for your child before born if u choose to retain the pregnancy even with neg results? Regardless the health status baby will have at least a life plan should u choose to give birth .

alca: frm now till u r due for the Oscar test, try not to dwell too much on the previous Oscar result.. Rem every pregnancy is diff... do take good care of yourself in the meantime..

Can anyone advise where I can do the Harmony test and also the cost please? At Mount E and Parkway east it's 3k and seems very steep :( thanks all!! And Merry Xmas!

I'm 35 and this's my first bb, I have bad OSCAR result on my 12 weeks too, the NT is normal, however my blood test turn it to 1:20 for T21. My gynae arrange the amnio test for me at NUH at 2nd week of Jan which on my 17 weeks, both me & my hubby choose to do the test coz for my case it's 5% DS VS. 0.5% miscarrge rate. We already know it's baby girl 2 days ago, hope our little angle is health and fine!

Hi lvbb

Im 35 during my first preg. I had very bad oscar result. With ratio of 1:2 for T18 at week 13. I was arranged for amniocentesis on my week 16. The waiting game was really mentally tortured.
So I encountered from one of thread abt genetic scan. Prof ananda at camden medical centre. Genetic scan should be performed at week 15. The scans are very detailed to look for markers of baby. Well, my baby has a deformed brain which meant bb brain din grow well and filled with fluid. so amnio is a redundant at that moment.

Therefore I terminated my preg at week 15 plus through a mini labour.

But this is the only way to end my bb pain earlier as the survival rate is 0 even I chose to bring bb to full term.

Lvbb I suggest u to see prof ananda for earlier scan. Im sure u r very anxious to know the result asap. Good luck yaaaa.

Hi mumtobe0813, thanks for the sharing and so sorry to heard that! Yup, we did consider to do a genetic test, however, one of my hubby's friend went before and the genetic test just help to reduce her risk from 1:35 to 1:155, she still need to go for amnio test to confirm it. As what I knew so far, T18 can tell from bb's physical defect so the genetic test can help a lot, but T21 is not, so it still can't replace amnio test for my case. Haizz...

Hi, I did an oscar scan at week 12 and baby was high risk for DS 1:219 due to 2.6mm NT and absent nasal bone. I am 31 years this year and is now in my 14 weeks.
I am scheduled to go for amnio test end of this month. Am worried about the procedure as well as the outcome of the result.
Anyone in the same or similar situation, with both NT and nasal bone abnormal, and went for amnio, and the result from amnio was good?

hi guys. today i got a call that really spoil my mood. i was so happy all this while. the nurse called and said that my Oscar blood test was low risk. But NT of 2.4mm is considered slightly high? i thought that was normal. they referred me to Dr Tc Chang at 20 weeks for a scan again instead of the normal sonographer. i thought 2.4mm was normal range. and the wait for the scan is almost 2 mths away .

Hi Sierrastorm, don't get too worried abt it. During your scan, was baby's nasal bone sighted? I think if it's really serious, they would have suggested u to go for cvs or aminocentesis test.. If u want, perhaps you can look for alternatives? I read that the mums seek 2nd opinion frm Dr Anada from Camden medical.

hi thanks for your reply. we saw the nasal bone. actually during the scans with the sonographer . she mention everything was ok. as the nasal bone was sighted. i was worried about the blood test results. instead now i have to worry about the neck thickness part . sigh. i will check with my hubs to see if we should go see Dr Ananda. thanks

Hello...Went for scan today and the doctor told me that my baby neck is abit thicker..I saw the measurement is about 3mm...I am worried about down syndrome... my oscar test result is 1:4950...I requested to do harmony test as harmony test can detect 99% of down syndrome while oscar can only detect 90%..anybody got similar experience?

Ying1163, how did your results turn out?

Hi all, this thread seems inactive but I'm giving it a try to see if anyone will see my msg.

I just returned from KKH with a terrible OSCAR result for my twins
Trisomy 21 risk - 1:61 for twin A and 1:5 for twin B
Trisomy 18 risk - 1:4037 for twin A and 1:167 for twin B
NT at 2.8mm for twin A and 3.8mm for twin B
Nasal bone is visible for both.
I'm 37 years old.

It's devastating. The doctor has suggested for me to do Amnio in 3 week's time. I came across Dr. Anandakumar from forums and would like to find out more about his Genetic Ultrascan to seek second opinion.

I have called to make an appointment to see Dr Anandakumar next week for a week 14 Genetic Ultrascan. The price is $600-680 times 2 (for twins). The lady on the phone told me that the Dr will ask me to come back for a week 21 scan again. She says the week 21 scan is to scan for more details like hole in heart etc and it's the same price. Did anyone go for 2 Genetic Ultrascans?

Any sharing is much appreciated. Thank you.

Hi all, I have received the results for my Oscar scan and it was not good:

I'm 31 this year.

NT: 3mm
Nasal bone: 2.4mm

Blood test
Free beta hcG: 2.06 MoM
PAPP-A: 1.167 MoM

Risk for T21: 1:80
Background risk is 1:584

There is this graph chart that states NT is more than 95%.

Gynae suggested amnio or cvs which I opted for cvs but actually I'm still at a lost since I received the results.

Can anyone enlighten me if its the above measurements or the blood test that is bringing up the risk?

Ur T21 is 1:80 after adjusted? Why not go for harmony test lst?

Yah, 1:80 is adjusted. Did ask the gynae about harmony test but he suggested invasive tests for more accurate results. I actually have an appt for CVS tmr and I'm very nervous about the procedure and the results

Ok...listen to ur gynae and wish u good luck. Hope everything turn well for u.

hi has anyone done the NT scan? I just did mine yesterday and my bb's neck thickness was 11mm.. very devastating news.. i have to do another CVS scan again next Mon and to wait 10 days for the result.. now i m coming 13 weeks..
Hi princess10.. I know it has been years.. hope everything gone well for u? I'm 12 weeks preg and today's NT scan showed 9.7mm. Cried for hours n I'm waiting for my harmony results. Not sure if you can share more? If not it's ok.. god bless and thanks

Hi,

Yes it's been years.. in the end my baby girl already went to heaven upon Dr Ananda's scan.. her lungs had accumulated too much fluid. She was diagnosed as Turner's syndrome.

I had another baby girl in 2015 and now going to have a baby boy soon next month..sometimes I do miss my eldest girl but still I have to move on..

Pls take care.. I know how you feel right now.. do visit a Chinese TCM physician (大众医院) to build up yr health. I conceived within 3 months after visiting the TCM

Regards,
princessyiling10

Thanks a lot for sharing. I'm very sorry to hear this and likewise for myself, I know such bad measurement certainly mean something bad. Though I pray for the smallest miracle I know more than likely the news is going to be negative. I'm 35 this year, went through ivf as I am diagnosed with pcos. Having this baby never comes easy.. thanks for your encouragement .. wish u all the best and god bless.. HugZ

Hi there.. i terminated this pregnancy and same issue happened to my next pregnancy which ended in a miscarriage as my waterbag burst at week 18. After several testing it was confirmed that my baby has rare genetic disorder (not chromosome) as my hub and I are both carrier to the same disease causing genes. Take care n I hope u get good results soon. My Fren baby has a thick NT too but the thickness sort of normalise at week 14 and her baby is already few months old.

Hi there

Are you willing to share how your pregnancy turned out? Did you do other tests after the fts? What were your risks like?

Just went for my fts today. Baby's NT measured at 5mm, and I have 1:58 risk for trisomy-21 and 1:116 risk for trisomy-18. The doctor suggested we go for amnio. I don't feel comfortable cos there's a risk of miscarriage but I've also been crying over the uncertainty and the risk of baby having any chromosomal diseases.

You may want to do harmony test or panorama , as these are non invasive and has much higher level of accuracy compared to Oscar.

Hello!

My baby's NT kept growing, until 3rd trimester when my obstetrician said there was no point measuring anymore as there was no data to compare it to. At the last measurement when I was 6 going on 7 months pregnant, it was 8 mm plus.

I didn't bother doing Panorama or Harmony as they measure the likelihood of the baby having any chromosomal disorder (screening test) and opted for a diagnostic test instead (which tests the baby's DNA itself). I underwent CVS. I was terrified. Like you, I was afraid of miscarriage. So I had my CVS done by Prof Biswas at NUH (the best at this procedure). The actual procedure didn't hurt, only when the LA was injected I felt pain for, like, 13 seconds. It did not take long either. But I rested for 3 days, didn't move much, no carrying heavy stuff etc. Glad I did it because it gave me certainty and peace of mind, also clarity on what to do next. My spouse and my genetic test results came back negative for T13, T18 and T21. Cannot remember if we did the Noonan test. The genetic tests were quite expensive. The geneticist was very patient and called us as soon as she got our results. Prof Biswas was very reassuring too. As someone who has actually gone through it, the invasive test (whether CVS or amniocentesis) was not as scary as everyone made it out to be. Trust me, the certainty that the results give you is certainly worth it. Otherwise, I think I would be haunted by What-Ifs forever, never knowing if I made the right decision or not (as to whether to proceed with the pregnancy or otherwise). After that, I decided to see a Maternal Fetal Medicine specialist who had done surgery on baby in-utero, in case something needed to be done.

Anyway, I am very blessed to have a happy ending. My baby boy is lying in my arms now, thank God. He was born healthy and normal. At his birth, I got a reputable neonatalogist to make sure all was OK.

Overall, this pregnancy was one long, and gruelling ride but the money spent is all worth it.

I am sharing my story to give you hope. Don't give up yet. My first obstetrician told me most of her patients terminated their pregnancies when FTS didn't go well, because they didn't want to undergo CVS/amniocentesis. So glad I didn't, and was very blessed to have a supportive obstetrician when I sought second opinion (the Maternal Fetal medicine specialist).

There is no right or wrong answer or decision. You do what is best for you, so no matter what happens, you will have peace of mind. I pray for you to find clarity and hope for nothing but the best for you.

My husband and I have decided that no matter what we will not terminate this pregnancy...I guess it's just planning our next step now. We're still undecided whether to go for Harmony test only amnio. But the certainty you received after going thru cvs is definitely a push factor for us to try amnio.

Hi everyone i had a bad oscar result too at week 13 twin one ratio for ds was 1:8. Was feeling devastated as twin 2 ratio was so much different. Twin 1 nasal bone was absent and NT of 2.7mm. We were ask to do Amniocentesis test which was yesterday. After crying n was so stress for 2 days after i got the news i picked myself up. We went to NUH yesterday prepared for amnio test however they need to scan and check which twin that need to be tested and didn't want to do the test on both babies as there will be increase of miscarriage. We we there for 5 hours scanning and taking break in between as the sonographer and Doc can't see the face. Finally after 5 hours prof biswas, dr anjit make the decision that there wasn't a need to do amnio as both babies nasal bone can be seen clearly and they did not find and abnormalities. We were just told to get a panaroma test which i did today. Don't be discouraged! We mummies have to be strong!! Now waiting for the result to confirm if both babies are fine.

Hi Ms. Wen, good day! I hope you’re okay now. I’m quite worried with my bad oscar result.

Hi Ms. Wen, good day! I hope you’re okay now. I’m quite worried with my bad oscar result.
Hihi I lost my baby eventually due to a rare genetic issue where me n my hub were both carrier of the genetic defects (not chromosome issue). How’s the NT measurement? I only use NT as indicative results and I don’t rely on Oscar . I’ve done harmony test instead . I just delivered to a healthy baby boy last Aug and trust you will have a healthy baby too. Stay brave and positive !

This is the result of my Oscar Test:

Gestational Age: 12 weeks & 5 days
NT- 3.50mm
Nasal Bone: 3.2mm
Background Risk for T21: 1:791
Adjusted Risk for T21: 1:25
Fall to High Risk Result

Both T18 & T13 are Low Risk.
