Anyone encounter ARSA baby?

Had my abnormality scan this afternoon at Thomson medical.
Report came back with baby with an extra blood vessel in heart (ARSA). It was so worrying. They engaged another doctor to examine my scan again and conformed the vessel presence. Stating it's usually marker of down syndrome. Some may be normal. I read on Google that usually 1.4% are normal. And the rest are down's. This even worry me further.
Headed down to my gynae with my report. Gynae smiled and say don't worry first. Its not very serious. (I know Dr heng can be very assuring at times) but I couldn't stop worrying and went ahead to do the blood test for down syndrome. Don't know what it call. But I know accuracy is 98% as I opt out for the amino test which requires to take some fluid from sac. Which will cause 2% risk of miscarriage.
Hoping for someone whom experience this to advice me. Im very lost now. Waiting for my report for 2 weeks is like killing me with 20 stabs.
I do read about a blogger whom had this and turned out normal. But am I that lucky too?

Hi Menielle,
Sad to hear this, I feel
For you..pray that you can get over this hurdle..how is the report/result getting on?..also is this your wk20-22 scan? Did you performed any DS test before this blood test?

Hi qiang,
Results is out. But only nurses called to reveal the results. They stated baby is fine. Its normal.
Understanding doctor have not seen the report yet. Tomorrow is my gynae appt. I will want to hear the results from Dr heng herself to be 100% assured.
Side note, yes.. I took DS test before this detailed scan. My result was Low risk.
My advise to mommies out there. To play safe and really to save cost it's to take the paranorma test for DS instead of Oscar. Paranorma is 98% accuracy although it cost $1100 but at least you buy the assurance before the detailed scan. If not, you will be like me spending $400 on Oscar then noticed any problem during detailed scan you gonna spend another $1100 to get a high accuracy report.

Best of luck Menielle.
For our baby, we did the week 20 detail scan last Friday and was told that baby having an extra blood vessel in heart ..still do not know the root cause as yet and were told to revisit the cardiovascular doctor for a detail examination of the baby heart..it's the longest weekend of our life!!!
We try google to understand more and seems like a lot of the forum is pointing towards ARSA..we did the harmony test (99% accuracy )on week 12 and result is low risk as well..
Btw Menielle, Did you receive the report on that day itself after the detail scan?..
Hope to hear from you more after your visit to Dr Heng.. Any impact to baby's heart/growth etc..

Hi qiang,
Be strong, baby is just stronger than other babies. That's explained the extra blood vessel. I did my 20 weeks scan. And found this out on the first round of the scan and they called for an cardiovascular doctor. He did the scan again. And confirmed the extra blood vessel. Telling us baby is having an ARSA. Understanding that's a soft marker for DS. He mentioned 90% of the ARSA baby is belong to the DS group.
But Dr heng mentioned that other than this extra blood vessel, baby is perfectly fine. Likely isn't DS. And results came back baby is normal.
I will pray for your baby too. Don't worry too much yet. Baby is just fine. Let me update you after my 2pm gynae appointment.

Hi Menielle,
Hope everything alright for you...are you able to get all your doubt cleared by Dr..
Just to update you on my baby condition too.. Apparently my baby is not having ARSA..the additional vessel is noted In between PA and AO and nothing to do with DS..and will not impact baby prior to birth.. But no answer on the implications after birth..need to schedule appt with paediatric cardiologists for an antenatal cardiac ECHO to further address our concern.

Hi qiang,

I have seen Dr heng today too. Got the report! I asked so does it affect my baby? Dr heng reassured me that baby will be fine after birth no problems swallowing. No troubles at all. But if I'm worried I can get cardiac ECHO to be done too.
So now, we can only pray hard to a healthy baby after birth. And making sure they are just stronger than others. Keep me posted whenever you can. :) God will bless you and baby. :)

Great to hear that Menielle.. Go with your heart whether you want to proceed with Cardiac Echo.. Yup will keep you posted too..keep in contact and keep each other updated along the journey...

Hi there, i’ve just went for my 20th week detailed scan and radiologist discovered my baby girl has ARSA too. My gyne suggested that i should go for amnio but i’m not sure whether if i should for it or not. I didn’t test for any DS cause i’m only 26 and no family history of DS. So another opt is to go for the harmony bloof test. For a peace of mind. Mind sharing ur experience N how was urbaby?

hi there , my baby has arsa too, i have done harmony test, waiting for the results, but this wait is killing me, hows ur baby doing , plzz suggest .

Hi everyone. Our baby has been detected with ARSA at 20 weeks and we have been sent for NIPT test. We are extremely nervous and my wife hasn't stopped crying. I would appreciate it if anyone could share their experience of having been in a similar situation, and how their baby is doing now. Was surgery required? So far from what we know it seems to be a case of isolated ARSA for us with all other structures of the baby seeming fine and healthy. We would extremely appreciate any input, thanks

I am pregnant, and I also have arsa baby.the only stress is about DS, we did harmony test and the baby is very low risk, I was also very stressed. Don't stress out so much , go for nipt test. All d best

Hi, my daughter was born healthy with no problem after birth the doctor dont even mention anything about her arsa.. so far i dont have any issue with her feeding or anything related with arsa... i know it’s devastating to recieve such news. But have faith and enjoy ur pregnancy. :)

She’s now a healthy hubby 4month old baby just like any other baby.. I don’t think it requires any surgery.

Hi...
My baby girl has arsa too...discovered at 8wks and left us so anxious..did amnio and was cleared of downs n digeorge..20wks scan seems find aside frm e arsa..gynae said in 99% of the cases she see baby is fine... but we wldnt know if theres any breathing or swallowing issue till she’s born... we have a friend w an arsa baby but shes a healthy 2 yr old now! So have faith ok ;) its all the waiting for the test results thats rrly anxiety provoking

Hi All, my boy is having ARSA also, went thru the plastic surgery when he was 8-9months old. Surgery was successful & everything goes fine & he is discharged from ARSA now.
Just have faith & pray hard, everything will be fine.
Cheers

My son has ARSA, he is now 5 years old and healthy, it doesn’t affect him in anyway. No treatment is required for this condition

He didn’t breath at birth and kkh called code blue for him but the PD who checked him said it’s likely one-off and not due to the arsa itself.

Hi there - I find myself in the same situation , found out at my 20 weeks scan that the baby has ASRA with everything normal. My NIPT at 11 weeks has also shown Low risk for DS. However I wanted to know if ASRA can cause any health complications in new borns ..also to get advise on any precautions to take ? Would be great to get an update on your babies as they must be older now :)

Hi Mrs Maisal,
Sorry to hear that. Not to worry so much for ARSA at the moment and i'm sure your gynae/specialist would already provide their best advise to you on what to do next. Frankly, there is nothing can be done for now besides the additional scanning/test (for down syndrome). Although there is a risk for other birth defect but again we can't do anything now till the baby is born. By then doctor and other specialist will do a thorough check to ensure your baby is safe & good to be discharge from hospital.
Rest assured that everything will alright.
Do keep us posted on the latest development from your end then.
Thanks.

I can understand your situation. I was on same situation. Now my daughter is 5 month old.we did NIPT and report came low risk. So then we just left everything on doctor and God.

We can't do anything about it just make sure baby is fine. May be after baby is born you can do echo just to check.

Hello Mummies,

Can ARSA babies take top feed/bottle-feed? Just asking for the information, I read somewhere they should exclusively be on mother feed. Please advise.
