IUI/SO-IUI: Anyone?

ok so my first IUI failed, got my full flow AF today and it's not like my typical flows. honestly very bummed out and gave myself some time to feel sad but now back to reality - gonna try second IUI and see how that goes the next time.

Hugs. Yea lets hear your doctor's advice first... Is the next IUI scheduled?

We done at tmc. Private also can claim. However we didn't . FYI. If need ivf it will be higher cost which medisave is handy. Consider first

I have checked a few clinic and all say iui cannot claim. Called up kkh and they said if wan to claim then have to go polyclinic to get referral letter. Even call in for appt also considered pte

I was also trying to find out if medisave be can be used for iui - apparently not:

https://www.ecitizen.gov.sg/topics/pages/mobile/topicsdetail.aspx?mpageId=209

Only applicable for iui done at public hospitals. I'm on clomid with pregnyl injection, no success yet. Gynae say I can try a few more cycles before trying iui

Thanks for the info! I was previously on clomid with the injection as well but it's not working out for me.

We kinda decided probably will try IUI in Sept, in this case maybe I will consider going to polyclinic to get a referral to do IUI.

Even private patient at kkh also can claim medisave. Because once transfer your case to kkhivf centre everyone is private, there is no subsidized rate for fertility treatment, only the checks and test prior then got subsidy if polyclinic refer. My first SO-IUI was with KKH. Maybe the staff blur or misunderstood your question.

You can try call Thomson fertility centre. Confirm can claim medisave as I am with them now.

I am suspecting the staff you call thought u were asking about government grant for IVF. That is a different story all together

I dunno leh...called in wanted to book appt for so-iui and ask about whether can use medisave she told me cannot. So Thomson fertility Centre can use medisave to claim for so-iui?

I used medisave for my SO-IUI at kkh. Yes Thomson fertility centre also can use.

At KKH it is more troublesome as you need to see a specialist to run the necessary tests first before the doctor refer you to the IVF centre, where the fertility treatment proper will start. Prior to referring the case, you cannot claim medisave but is entitled to subsidy if you got polyclinic referral.

When you get referred to kkhivf centre, there will be a nurse who will conduct financial consulting. The staff there are more familiar with all the guidelines and regulations.

I would like to ask for opinion, is it better to try iui first before going for ivf? Heard that iui the success rate is really low and that ivf is higher.
My Gynae recommend that I go for iui if the current treatment of clomid + injection still doesn't work. Have done one cycle so far. I was asking him why not go straight for ivf, he told me that ivf should be the last resort and if I were to go to any fertility centre for assessment they would recommend iui first.
Anyone encountered this before?

Hi @pink2purple usually they will recommend IUI before IVF if both has no prob with pre-test because it cost way cheaper n less hassle. Yes true IUI success rate is very low but doesnt mean IVF has higher chance u will strike. You have to be emotionally strong if it fails given that u have spent alot n its the last resort. End of the day it all depends if its meant to be. =) i know of a friend who only strike after 12th IVF.

Wow, 12 times?? That's a lot of $$$ spent

Yea I'm contemplating on taking it further, because it's a lot of money involved and it's going to be an emotional roller coaster if the treatment doesn't work.

neeliec.. did so-iui as clomid did not work out for us. for us, we didnt claim medisave as will use up one grant chance. we paid in full. so-iui procedure few hundred only if not wrong. is the test, consultation costly. otherwise can consider kkh

I am with KKIVF centre, yes I was recommended to do SO-IUI first. Was a bit sian when I heard that the success rate is 5-20%, IVF success rate is 40-50%. But I got pregnant with the IUI, never needed the IVF, so I can tell you it is worth trying.

How much u spent in total for iui?

Private.I try and pull out the procedure cost later. Shld be less than 1k. Consulation , test etc I don't think so cos there a lot of invoices. In other word, a lot of $$$. It's definitely worth to achieve bfp
phantom, do u roughly remember the cost for your so-iui? you do it private or with government subsidized?

U start from how many mg? We started off 50 then increased think ard 100 to make grow. Wat we do.. Drink red bean soup, wear long pant, socks. Basically keep urself warm. Red bean is to thicken lining

Thanks for the advice! Will bear that in mind. I haven't start on the cycle yet. Called the nurse on day 1 of AF (sorry TMI), she said to go on day 2 to start the daily injections, so I asked her if day 3 is okay coz is Sat, she said is okay too.

For me, I didn't do anything special. Didn't keep myself warm, slept in air con room, eat ice cream, drink cold drinks... But I kept myself busy with daily life and didn't think about the outcome... On the hind side, I think my body is already warm in nature as I got heaty during preg when I tried to take red date drink as per old ppl advice.. So you should know your body best.

I think I also start my injection on day 3, because I didn't manage to do on day 2 as I only have time during lunch and the wait on day 2 was too long.

Thank you for sharing that you took on day 3, more assured now! :)

Hi, I just started on my puregon injections. Pls share with me any dos and don'ts plus food to eat or avoid for now before first scan. Thank you for sharing!

Hi everyone,

I have some question on the iui. On the day of performing the iui. Does the husband need to provide the sperm in the hospital or it can be collected at home and i just need to bring it down?

No leh. After the "counseling" which is just the briefing, then went down to start the injections taught by a nurse, didn't see doc at all.

I didn't avoid anything at all, but I was told to avoid exercising as our ovaries may became big during this period and if exercise may get entangled or something.

Like what phantom said, you may avoid cold drinks, cold food, chilly food, and keep yourself warm... I know of some couples who use TCM concurrently with IUI and IVF.

Good luck to you!

For KKH, husband can produce in hospital or at home. But he needs to be the one who bring it down personally as they will verify his identity. Maybe they scared we bring other sperms to them.

Hi all ladies, this is first time in forum. I've just started my IUI journey yday with my first puregon injection. Any ladies got pregnant with first IUI try? been trying naturally with dh for 2 yr plus, so doctor recommend to do IUI/IVF.

Hi ladies, wanna check with all of you. I come menses on the 25 july evening, had my 1st puregon jab on 27 july. Today 2nd jab, and my menses seem gone already. Is this normal? Izzit because of the jab? My normal cycle last 5-7days.

Hi i am going for IUI as a subsidize patient soon. Can i check will they schedule me for iui procedure immediately after i go for my first consultation? Cause i read there is couselling sessions and blood test therefore there is multiple visits before the start of iui cycle?

Likely 1st consulation is see Dr, briefing, and will be told to Bd naturally. If af comes then have to call Dr to schedule which should be next day

Have to assess first. Eg how long been trying. Check any issue/ suitable for iui/so-iui etc. It's the sop if not wrong. Iui is oral, like take Clomid. So-iui is injectable

Can request doc to start iui immediately? If Af comes can start iui preparation cycle you mean?

Must do blood test for both you and your husband first.husband must also Do a sperm test. Then maybe a scan to see if your Fallopian tube is clear without blockage and your uterus is clear without obstacle before doctor will recommend iui. Because IUI won't work if your Fallopian tube is blocked, can only do IVF.

The above procedure is for KKH. If you go private hospital can start immediately I think...I was with KKH subsidized (referred by poly clinic), think from consultation to test to my first jab took around 3-4 months.

After scheduled and confirm on IUI, jabbing will start on day 2 or 3 of Menses.

I got pregnant on first try. I was 29 and husband 36. Due to PCOS and low sperm count. But I can't remember is there any thing different with my menses after jabbing. Good luck!
