Hi Natto, Harmony test is one of the test that have 99% accurate, so this shall be good enough. there is any detailed scan usually done on the 20 weeks but this is more on checking on organ and not so much of down syndrome.

other mummies, please correct me if I am wrong.

I'm turning 44 just found out Im expecting my #1 just Afew weeks ago. I'm quite new here. Reading up all the previous information from this forum.
May I know at which week you went for the harmony test? How much and where did you pay for it?
I'm only at week 6. High risk pregnancy due to age and it's my #1. Very nervous, worried yet looking forward to a whole new phase.
 
Hi, I saw Dr Ann Tan for my last pregnancy. Agree that parking is a pain, but many other options since at orchard. I used to park at Shaw (cheapest) and walk down to paragon, or get hubby to drop me off first while he park.

Hi Shuqin, Congratulation to you too.

Harmony - The Harmony test analyzes cell free DNA in maternal blood and gives a strong indication of whether the fetus is at high or low risk of having trisomy 21 (Down syndrome), trisomy 18 (Edwards syndrome) or trisomy 13 (Patau syndrome).

Blood are draw and sent to US. It take about 10 days to know the result and my gynae office called to inform me. It can also tell us the baby gender.

The blood are drew at my gynae office at Mt E and I am currently seeing Dr K K Ho. I pay S$1K for the test.

The receptionist told me I was lucky because it was S$1.4K the week before and they reduce the price the week I decides for the test. Reason being this test have become more popular now and more gynae are also providing this service, as such they have decided to reduce their fee.

Amnio - This is a 'diagnostic test', which takes a sample of amniotic fluid from the uterus containing cells from the baby's system. It is a usually quick and painless test that may be offered at about 16-19 weeks of pregnancy, especially if you are over 35 and have a higher risk of having a baby with Down syndrome.

Test are done local, some gynae does it but they might not be as professional but I understand from my gynae that NUH provide such services and they do it daily. Cost are a lot cheaper and can use medisave and it takes about 2 weeks to know of result too.

Both are 99% accuracy. The reason I go ahead with Harmony test was because this can be done on Week 12 onwards unlike amnio test where I would have to wait till 16-19 weeks, also another reason is on the 2% risk of miscarriage due to its an invasive procedure and I do not want to take the chance.

Hi Vititan1506,

I pay S$1K for this test. This test is 99% accurancy so I believe shall be it if you are testing for trisomy 21 (Down syndrome), trisomy 18 (Edwards syndrome) or trisomy 13 (Patau syndrome).

I will be going for the detailed test at 20 weeks though at Thomson Medical and prices is around S$170.

looking forward to hear from you after you visit your gynae. You might like to do a comparison on how much your gynae charge and if more ex. can consider taking my gynae just for the test :) I have the test last Monday on 25.05.2015 and received result on Tues 02.06.2015 morning so considering the Public Holiday it is only 7 days.

Is this your first time taking the Harmony Test? This is the first time I am taking the test as my previous 2 was conceive before the age of 34. :)
 
I will be taking the harmony test on 27 June cos I turned 41 thus June.
However, I still feel that the test will only reduce risk and does not guarantee anything...
Just the other day I was thinking, certain things like austism etc will not be discovered during such pregnancy test - am I right?

I had uti during my pregnancy .. 2x with E. coli . The 1st was 6th week Almost a week after knowing that I am pregnant and 2nd when I am at 20 wks ... I have drug allergy hence the antibotic available is quite limited .. And the most recently uti landed me in nuh for 11days cos it affect my kidney .. Unlucky this din happened when I was pregnant last year

For me a fertility specialist once told me I can only get pregnant via ivf cos I have pcos but my body proved her wrong a month after she told me thAt cos I got pregnant naturally lolz

Then again ppl joked jackpot won't hit twice naturally for pcos'er but again my body proved it again and I got pregnant naturally at 40 lolz

Guess my body is a late bloomer lolz

Mixed feeling when my big boss talk to me yesterday . He told me the young officers are hungry for promotion n willing to cheong. Yeah I told him i understand. Sum how he felt that as that this point of time I needed a lesser stress job. yeah so he transfer me to another portfolio.

You told him your desired to have another child ? Else how he know u need a less stressful job ?
 
At above 40, and after a D&C, what are your Gynea or doctor's advise? How many months later can we TTC again? My western doc says anytime. Chinese doctor says 6months later? Any testimonies ?
 
My previous gynae told me can try after 2months and if within 6 months nothing happen, quite low chance . Well... i preg after 1 yr...

i am 40 this year, and actually got pregnant naturally during March/April, supposedly should be in tri 2 now, but unfortunately i went through the evacuation procedure last tuesday because my bb stopped growing a few weeks ago... :(
it's my first time, but i am hoping to get pregnant again after the recovery of my body...

thought it's interesting that there is such a thread here, if there is any fb secret group or whatsapp group formed, please let me know.
apparently there is a we chat group right? but it seems a bit too troublesome for me, when most of my communication is done through whatsapp.

Maybe now like midlife crisis at 39. Not sure anyone feels it . Felt like taking a long break from work to do own tins. Haha but dunno leh. I m those that scared of boredom too. haha

I am sorry to hear about your situation but be strong!
What happened to me sounded quite similar, I am 42 and accidentally got pregnant in April and I saw gynae for the first time in first week of June. Then, baby was like 8 weeks, EDD supposed to be mid January 2016.
However, my 2nd appointment with the gynae on 27 June gave bad news for the gynae could not locate the baby's heartbeat. We went from the clinic to Mt A for another second scan, just to be sure but the result was sadly the same.
I did the evacuation the following mother and rested a week at home.
As you never mentioned, I wonder if you have any kids already; I have two girls at 6 and 18 years old and this pregnancy was an accident. We were taken aback when we saw the test kit, but subsequently, we rode joy as we felt it's God's gift.
When it went away, I was sad, especially that weekend before the procedure, it was like the longest weekend in my life!
I hope you will recover soon physically, mentally and emotionally and all the best!

I do not have info on the secret FB group; but I think you need to furnish your email and the administrator will add you or something. I tried but I think the adding process wasn't successful, so I gave up.

Really similar, mine EDD supposed to be early Jan, you received the bad news one day after me, while i did the evacuation one day after you.
today would be exactly 2 weeks after my evacuation. i totally understand what you meant about the longest weekend, it was really the same longest weekend in both our lives!

though i am already looking forward, but sometimes, i just can't help wondering how the baby will look like, is it a boy or girl, what kind of mother i will be, how much fun we will have with him/her, is my life gonna change forever...
yah, by the way, i have no kids yet, as i married late.

So how are you now? Are you working or sahm?

Hmm..do you mean administrator for the Facebook or from this thread? if it's a secret group, dun think we can locate it on fb yeah?

Same as you, 40 and just had a D&C. I have been seeing a Chinese sinseh, and in last consultation with her three days ago, she said i can try again maybe after two months. Starting on my chinese medicine tonight..

I'm sorry about your lost and I hope you are well too.
Do you know if the Chinese medicine is to treat on which area?
I've also started to see my chinese doc, he advised me to stop all the bu stuffs until my first period comes.
Just take his medicines for now until my period comes. His medicine is for tiao hormones and strength uterus. He will see me only after I clear my first period. I hope to try again two months later and ignore what he advise. I also continue with my folic acid. Jia you to you too.
 
@shuqin hi, i guess my chinese medicine same outcome as yours, mainly to strengthen the uterus.
basically i will see my sinseh once a month, get around 5 packets of herbs to brew at home, these will last around 1 month.
went for my gynae checkup today, doctor said safe to tic after 2 months (same as my sinseh)
what did your sinseh advise?
i guess as long as you allow your uterus to recover well for at least one month, try to take more natural food like fruits and veges, more relaxed, massages, exercise (quote from my gynae), when you feel your body is strong enough, trying after 2 months should be fine.
i intend to do so after two months too, let's hope both of us will strike it again.
who knows, we might EDD same period, haha! :)

Morning all, went for my amnio test yesterday and will see gynae for the result on 5th Aug. We are having a 3rd boy if based on yesterday's scan at 17w1d .

btw did you volunteer for that test ? didnt the gynae recommended harmony test which is less invasive ?
 
Thank u!. In a way yes and no. Gynae was patience and let me know 4 types of tests available at his clinic. Gave me 2 weeks to think about it as my scan was low risk but due to age, my hubby and i think we'd better not save this $ than to have lifetime regrets. But am glad my gynae help us with the decision 'no need to waste so much money to do other tests , recommended amnio with the higest accuracies'

well imho it is not the money but the risk involved . anyway since the gynam ask to do that ..there must be a reason :)

Got my amnio result yesterday and all is good. Double confirmed that this will be a boy, thus i will have 3 musketeers
