Hi mummies out there,

My baby stool got mucus things and some bleeding, did anyone encounter this before? We admitted my baby to kkh few weeks ago but they said didn't see the mucus during the 3 days stay at hospital, and the result of baby's stool test is normal, so baby discharged. This morning her poopoo got the things again and bleeding mix inside the mucus and stool, help if anyone encounter this, please share. Thank you very much and appreciated! A photo of baby's poopoo is attached, i am sorry about the photo, but we had checked with many doctors all giving us different answers.

My baby also has similar stools with some blood spots. He's been having runny stool up to 5 times a day since he went to ifc 4 weeks ago. PD ran lab test on stools for viruses and result was negative. He's been on probiotics and smecta but stools still runny and some blood still present. Anyone knows what's going on?

Hi Lululee,

May I know how old is your baby boy? Mine less than 2months old, this is my 2nd baby girl, i didn't see this during my 1st baby, we very worried. My baby is well feeding, she is on soy milk since she was diarrhea with formula milk powder.
We went polyclinic with the diaper but doctor's attitude really make my heart sunken, she asked if we want to go back kkh she can provide referral letter, that's all and at first she don't even want to see the diaper.
Help, mummies who had this experience can share with me and Lululle here!

I have seen that kind of diaper when baby was younger and on full breastmilk! So what happened was that I showed the PD the pictures, and we brought back a sterile bottle for stool test. The next time it happened, we took a sample of the stool (and blood) and went to see the PD, and sent the sample to the hospital lab directly. The results came back negative for blood! And in the meantime, the baby was feeding well, not upset, not screaming, and doctor didn't detect anything.

The worst case scenario is polyps in the intestines/colon - but this requires endoscopy to find out. There are no infant colonoscopy - only CHILD colonoscopy, therefore, the PD didn't recommend. She did probe with her little finger (baby screamed bloody murder) but didn't find anything. At the end we just dismissed it. She also outgrew it, or we just don't notice anymore. Incidentally, she was also allergic to milk powder, but can tolerate some. We gave her half cow's milk powder and half soy milk powder. Also, that time I had checked... this seems to happen to fully breastfed babies - and usually there is no particular reason, and it goes away. You would want to make sure that the feeding equipment are properly sterilized.

Oh, Lulule - if you baby is having runny stools, you should monitor a bit closely. Sometimes, it could be minor bleeding in the intestines or anus - when the diarrhea is too bad. Also, you should try to get Lacteol Forte from the doctor. It is pure lactobacillus in high dose. Very good for overall good digestive system - especially during or after diarrhea. Smecta only stops the diarrhea, but doesn't help to balance the good bacteria in the colon.

Hi Frog,

Thanks for sharing here, glad that your girl is doing good now.
We monitoring very closely for her every poopoo everyday and at the same time I thinking to switch my baby back to milk powder slowly.

Hi Wendyzura, maybe u can try switch to a milk formula that is for some babies who have digestive problem, i don't remember the name but u can check with mead Johnson coz this is under enfa range

Hi wendyzura and frog thanks for your advice. My boy is 4 months this week and on full bm other than 1 fm feed at night. The 2 PDs we saw said since lab result came back negative they have nothing else to treat him with and recommended seeing a gastrointestinal specialist. It's distressing to see his runny diapers every day and even worse to see the blood spots. I will check with specialist on the lacteol forte when we see her. Thanks for sharing!

Hi Jesslyn,

Thanks for your input, will check it out!
We also suspect baby having digestion problem with certain brand of formula milk, I read through online regarding formula milk, most articles say have to switch until you got one formula where its ingredients suit your baby stomach, I think there is no way out except this method. Lululee, did your doctor recommend you to switch milk powder for your boy?
I hope my baby get well before I get back to work as I am putting her at nanny house Mon-Fri.

Hi wendyzura the doc actually told me to stop fm temporarily and put baby on full bm. But his condition didn't improve much. I hope your baby gets better very soon.
