Any mummy has this syndrome after giving birth to LO? I heard that chiropractic can help to ease the pain. Any mummy tried before? Or if there is any remedies to healing the pain on the thumb tendons? Please share with me as I have been having this pain for more than 4 months already.

I have seen the TMC and had few sessions (think 4 sessions) acupuncture, but doesn't help much. Seen another TMC and was told to rub some ointment myself.. no need to go for acupuncture. so it has passed 4 months liao. Tml, I am going to see another TMC and see how this doctor got to say. I saw from a forum on this topic and seems that chiropractic does help on her hand. Think my last resort will be going to see a chiropractor. Shall see how it goes tomorrow.

Hi,

I also have this problem on both wrists after giving birth to my first child. Went to polyclinic and got referral to SGH specialist dept. Went for heat therapy etc. Coz I am breastfeeding then, doc didn't do injection to reduce the swelling. After I stop breastfeeding, then did injection for one of the wrist. Got temporary relief. The doc told me that it is due to incorrect technique of carrying my baby. When my son grow older and I carry him different way, my problem improve and now, my wrist are well again. If you choose not to do anything, it will improve by itself once you change your carrying style.

Thanks mocha_c for your comment. Appreciate your sharing. Ya. I read many articles on this problem and all said was due to incorrect technique of carrying my baby. I believe I have carried my baby the wrong technique when I was breastfeeding her as I realised this pain occurred when I breastfeed her. However, I have stopped bf after 2.5 months since my baby's birth, but the pain still persist. I do not know what is the correct technique way of carrying my baby. some articles said not to have your thumb underneath the baby's arm as it will cause pain and instead to use palm to hold on the baby's side chest (can't remember what it is called). It seems pretty difficult to hold my baby in that way especially when she fidgets, she will slips off a little from my hand. I think meanwhile, I will wait and see how it goes as she get older. thanks once again for the postings.

Hi,

If the pain is unbearable, u can go poly clinic to get referral to see specialist or poly clinic can do the injection on the wrist. The injection will offer pain relief. The specialist do refer me to do heat therapy and therapist made two cast for my two wrist, but not practical as I need to remove when washing or carrying baby. Suggest if u want faster recovery, can consider the injection. I breastfeed till 8 months, so by the time I do the injection, already used to the pain.

Take care and get well soon!

Hi Phyllis76, my friend have the similar condition but her is at wrist. She went for pain management and accunpuncture. Nothing helps. Her dr advised her to go for operation as certain days her wrist got swollen with pain. She decided not to go for operation and used her own remedy- applying essential oil. It helps!

I have carpal tunnel sort of pain on my wrist and using Lemongrass essential oil from YL helps. Over 2 weeks, the pain is gone... After applying the oil, I do feel some relief instantly...

Hi Phyllis, I suggest you see a physiotherapist who can help you with the carrying technique as well as simple exercises to strengthen and other forms of therapy to promote healing of the tendon and pain relief.

you can get a referral from the polyclinic (some polyclinics have physios) or a referral from the specialist at government hospital or see a private physio outside or at govt hospital

hope you get better soon! :)

I hope you are much better already! I suffered from this too - right wrist and it was really bad for a couple of months...

The best cure is to not use it! Haha you say? Then next best thing is to avoid all the movements that aggravate it like sms-ing, wringing cloth etc. I "splintered" my thumb to palm ie worked with four fingers only. Took about a month to go away, 8 months to get full mobility and flexibility back in my thumb!

Thanks isa1814 and all. I have more or less recovered (80% recovered). It has been 8 months and finally I feel much much much better now. I suppose it will heal by itself when you don't really need to carry the LO so much. Now my girl sits by herself and sits on high chair, thus giving me more time to relax my wrist. Hope this info helps.
