Hello... anyone can share her ivf experience with Dr Tan Heng Hao from KKH?
I understand that he replaced Dr SF Loh position as Head and consultant in Department of Reproductive Medicine in KKH.
I am considering to do IVF with either Dr Tan Heng Hao from KKH or Dr. SF Loh in TMC.
Please share... thanks...

Hi,
i am with Dr Tan HH from KKH & succeeded in my first try.
I only saw him during ER & ET.
My friend is currently with him too and so far has good experience with him.

Hi, I did my 2nd IVF with Dr. Tan Heng Hao and find him friendly and patient. I got 9 eggs collected but only 1 embryo success and transferred. The rest can't make it. It is disappointed but lucky the only 1 embryo survive and I'm now 19 weeks pregnant. My 1st IVF is with Dr. SF Loh. During the first visit, he is very friendly and willing to answer my questions but subsequent visit, he is not as friendly as usual and show poor temper and not friendly at all. My husband also share the same feeling.

i am with Dr Tan as well. Now preg with a baby...18weeks ++

he is quite nice, though I only saw him during initial consultation at clinic D, ER, ET.

He is a good fren of my current gynae as well...

Hi all

Not sure if this thread is still alive... I am new to this so i am thinking of getting some info and support from the community.

I'm 32, married for 7 yrs, tried for 5 yrs but nothing's happening.

I've tried TCM from EYS for about 1.5 yrs but doesn't seem to help.

I've swtiched to SGH couple of years now and have been given the clomid and have already done 3 cycles of one pill and 3 cycles of 2 pills, but still nothing.

Instead of IUI, I'm thinking of jumping straight to IVF already. Anyone can advise if i should stay with SGH? Anyone knows the success rate as compared to KKH? My SIL is with KKH through normal preg, no IVF and her gynae recommends Dr Matthw Lao, HH Tan or Dr Sadhana at KKH.

If i were to switch from SGH to KKH, will i need to go through poly clinic to get referral letter? We're not rich, so we can't afford any other hospitals like Mt E or Glen or even pte suites with KKH.

Hi All

Jus had my first IVF with Dr Tan Heng Hao at KK. It's positive. Agree that he's nice and friendly. Feels comfortable with him. Now thinking whether I should switch to him for the coming antenatal checkups. Cos currently I'm on subsidized rate. If want him, gotta change to Private rate.

Hi Yan

Presevere. Before this IVF, I tried 3x IUI too. All failed. You may wish to try acupuncture. I tried that for almost a year prior to and concurrent with my IVF too. Feels that it has helped. At Raffles Hospital under Physician Jin Jinhua. Keep trying!

Hi ladies... Dr tan suggest me to do laparoscopic to remove my cyst. Anyone has experience with this procedure with him? I am a bit scared and also worried about the scar. How long does it takes to do normal activity again? Pleaseeeee share.... Tx

Dr Tan Heng Hao? Of course! I had bad experience with 2 doctors in another fertility clinic in another hospital. When I called in to kkh, the nurse recommended Dr Tan. My first appointment I had, he did a varginal scan and I was as afraid as before cos of the bad experience with a female doctor in another hospital. He quickly apologized and distract me with a conversation. The 2nd time I met him was the embryo implant and he was as professional, sensitive and kind with his words. His EQ is definitely high! When I met him for the 3rd time, it was a month after my ivf failed. He was very logical and yet gentle in his words. He told me the truth about the high dosage of hormones injected into me but only yield 3 eggs. He carefully explained that I have to keep my hopes lower and subsequent ivf will be done with less hormones injects. By then I have gone to TCM for a few weeks. He encouraged me to continue TCM. Gave me DHEA and clomid. And instructed me to get back to him fast if I conceive.
True enough... I conceived naturally 2 months later. And which gynae? Who else but Dr Tan?! He is 1 of the nicest gynae I met.
Last week I met him for 2nd appointment, he is so patient about my long list of questions as though he was expecting a 1st time pregnant to ask. Even my husband said that he is as logical as a man but as gentle and sensitive as a woman.

Professional, experienced, sensitive, patient, understanding. What else do we look for? !

Hi did you go for laparoscopic already ? how was it going on ? i was suggested on laparoscopic as well.

I did with Dr Tan HH and conceived triplets....Nice gentle and sensitive.. If i had a single preg I would hv continued using him as my O&G but no choice, my pregnancy is complicated so I changed doctors.. But yes I second to the fact there is no better IVF doc than him..

Hi Lotsfaith,

I am new to this thread. I have badly swollen tubes due to which my dr advised me to opt for IVF.I have just gone through 2 IVF cycles and unfortunately they both failed. Thinking of trying TCM plus acupuncture. Could you please advise me your TCM Doctor and the cost.

Thanks

Hi everyone.. Im new to this thread, in fact this is my first post. Im scheduled for my first ivf cycle this coming November. I need some advice actually.. how is the procedure like for ivf? do I need to apply for long leave to have ample bed rest? Im working closely with young children so a lot physical energy involved. And yes im with Dr HH Tan. He is good definitely. Logical and warm person. Just the right doctor both my husband and I needed.:)

Hi ssweety, I did not see this thread that you started. think i need to change my notification settings. anyway, hope the other reply is good.

Hi Dhealina, I have been on no pay leave for almost a year and so was fortunate that I went through IVF in April with no work. The nurses in the fertility centre shared that some ladies went through IVF and we to work the very next day. I guess it is really up to individuals..

For me, I was happy that I was resting and not interacting much with people around me. I needed some space then. but of course there were lots of support whatever I needed them; I just need to ask.

Around 1.5 to 2 weeks of injection, followed by extraction of egg, implant of embryo and the long 2 weeks wait to know where the embryo implant. I was so disappointed that the dream of "having twins then close shop" just burst in the air when my menses came.

In summary, do what you think you need to. other people and other things can wait, you are the most important during this period.

Hi Lotsafaith. Thank u for the reply:) just trying to clear the questions that has been eating me up. Are u able to tell me when does the injection takes place? Is ut like during our ovulating period or? My company is such that I need to apply long leave way in advance so im kinda trying to figure out when will be the roughly dates. And was Dr Tan ur gynae too? How about payment wise?

Hi Vivine Lee! Sure:) do u mind msg me offline what was adviced to u on the procedure wise?

Kkh gave me a flow chart. Easy to understand. Day 1 Menses start. Day 2 to 3 arrange for scan to see whether womb ready for infection. Then series of injections start for about 12 days. 1 injection to stimulate follicle growth and the other to prevent it from ovulating so that it can be ready for collection later. There will be Varginal scans around every 3 days so track the growth of the follicles. As the follicles grow bigger the scans will be more frequent. And finally when follicles are large enough for collection, you will go to kkh 24h for pregnyl jab in the buttocks. This mature the eggs for collection. Around 2 days later, eggs are collected while we are sedated. I knocked out and only woke up after the operation. Meanwhile husband's sperm were collected. Then they go into lab. To become embryo! Then replaced in the womb while having a full bladder and wide awake! Finally 2 weeks wait to know whether embryo attach to womb lining. My account of the ivf process is without complications. But I did not conceive. However 2 months later I conceived naturally! Maybe cos of tcm.

Anyway I tried to write a blog. You may wish to read it.

For payment wise... Are you singaporean? It was about10k for me in total. 6.3k government subsidy. The rest split between 2 medisave accounts.
But after the ivf, we had to start paying for the medicine and consultation.

How many years have your tried for BB before you go for ivf ya ?

Abt 3 yrs for me. But the decision to go is not solely because of how long we tried. More because I got low egg reserve. husband got low sperm count. so thought that if not now go ivf then when? Husband also thought maybe can conceive first one with ivf then the 2nd child will come.

Vivine.. you can read a book. The fertility plan. A proven 3 months program to conceive naturally. By jill blakeway and dr sammi s david. Basically you need protein, good fats and iron. In fact very close to any healthy diet. My husband and I ate more salmon, put flaxseed powder in salad, had more wholemeals than whitte. Aside to that my tcm doctor warned against cold foodand drinks, fried food and chilli so I cut down a lot of that.

Hi All, I am new to this forum, and I would like to seek your comments on what I should do??

I am found to be having PCOs, and have irregular menses.. The irregularity can be quite serious like menses does not come the whole year..

I am trying to get pregnant, but due to the condition that I am having, it makes it really tough to conceive.

I have seen Dr Tan on 23.08.2013, was on duphaston, and taken letrozole on 2nd day of menses... Menses came on 1 Sep, so by month end, I did a pregnancy test, but was negative.

My next appt with him is 9 Oct 2013, but suddenly my menses came today 04 Oct 2013. I am a bit shocked, and don't know what to do.. Do you have any such experiences?

Should I call KK to ask Dr Tan to request for next round of letrozole?

or should I wait till appt on the 9th Oct 2013 to ask him? I am afraid my menses would have ended and no letrozole was taken. I will miss the next cycle...

Pls share your experiences with me. Thank you.

Hi

I am a high risk mother, who attempted IVF close to 40 yrs old. Was assign to HH Tan as my IVF doc and despite he being so busy and the long wait, but all is worth. Have gotten preggie one my 1st IVF attempt, harvested 19 eggs, 18 good ones, but as had internal bleeding (abnormal) after extraction, no choice but to implant embryo only a wk later, thus going for the blastocyst embryo. But cos blastocyst: have 5 embryo survived.

Had a very difficult journey during preg, bleeding alot and had to go kkh A&E almost once or twice a wk due to bleeding and also just barging in to hh tan clinic on those days he have clinical or calling him or email him alot due to many question and condition i was encountering. he had been a great help and been really very patient with us.

At 2nd trim found short cervical, resulted in hospitalization for 3 mths till almost delivery. HH Tan had been a great doc, monitoring my condition and ensuring all ok for me and my bb, very experienced, detailed and patient doc with very good success track record. knw another lady with complication also success almost immediate after seeing doc tan.

wishing you all the best in your upcoming ivf procedure.

cheers

Jas

thank you jas, thank you for sharing with us.... you are lucky to strike it at the first time......
even though that was a tough process, you achieve your dream finally.... we are still in struggle :(

Hi lotsfaith,

Thanks for the suggestion to go for tcm.

Due to reasons, like stress, work, & under pressure reasons, I decided to stop continuing ivf. I just started to go for tcm with 陈秋梅医师, nw taking chinese boiled 中药。 I hope this helps to regulate my menses, & help with my PCO problem.

:) Thumbs up for all ivf mummies! Jia you!!

hi, am new to this thread, may i know if go through private IVF without polyclinic referral, how much to pay for consultation and procedures? normally after egg collection and egg implant, how long a hospilization leave will be given? is it true that cannot get down the bed? is the whole IVF procedure the same as IUI? As for IUI need to jab myself everyday :(

I wasn't referred. Estimated 10k in cost; higher end cos was given high dosages of hormone jabs. Consultation cost with doctor drowns on your choice of doctor. There are 3 bands. After egg collection no hospitalisation leave but after implantation hl is around 2 weeks I think. some people believe in bed ridden but i was not medically adviced to stay in bed. Iui lower chance ivf higher chance. Iui just implant sperm in womb. But ivf involve extracting eggs and fertilising it before implantation. Ivf more expensive

I called in kkh today, ivf nurse advised me that these is the below cost

Total ivf 13k
Medisave 1st time $6000, 2nd $5000, 3rd $4000
Government grant $6300
Total need fork out $700 cash
Consultation fee 1st visit $124, subsequent visit $91
Procedure cost will be full for private patient while if go through poly clinic will only be half price

Hello all! I'm new to this thread and not sure if I should be posting here. :) Warning: Long entry below with lots of information.

I'm seeing Dr Tan Heng Hao at KKH too. But after my 1st consultation (where he placed me on the IVF route) in Feb 2014, I've not been required to see him. I've read on some of the forums that I might see him again during the oocyte pick-up procedure (if I ever get there). Just to share what my journey in KKH has been so far, for those who are also interested in the IVF process. Do note that the procedure/process/protocol will vary from patient to patient based on our medical conditions.

Background (Medical history)
I'm 30 this year (born in 1984) and have been diagnosed with PolyCystic Ovary Syndrome (PCOS). This means that my period is irregular and I have many small follicles in my ovaries which are unable to mature into proper ovums (thus never ovulating naturally on my own). My hormone levels are all over the place too. Since I got married in 2007, my hubby and I have been trying to conceive. We saw Dr SF Loh (when he was still in KK Hospital) and he prescribed Clomid for me. 6 cycles of Clomid did nothing for me, and I did not ovulate even when I was on the highest dosage (150mg daily). I moved on to see Dr Johti Kumar at Gleneagles and I did ovarian drilling in Dec 2012. He started me on Puregon (dosage between 50 - 150 iu) immediately after the surgery and unfortunately, I did not respond well to the jabs. In March 2013, he noticed a 2cm cyst in my ovary and advised that we stop all fertility treatments until the cyst went off on its own. If the cyst did not go off, I was to undergo another operation to remove it. In early May 2013, the hubby and I were pleasantly surprised to find out that I was pregnant. Unfortunately, it was a chemical pregnancy that ended in middle of June 2013 where I had a D&C (abortion) done. Since then, my period has been more or less regular, but despite our valiant attempts, I have not gotten pregnant.

Tired of waiting, my hubby and I decided to see Dr Tan Heng Hao at KK Hospital to consider IVF. Dr Tan was very understanding and while we had gotten pregant on our own previously, he knew my anxiety over wanting another child (especially after my miscarriage). He placed me on the IVF route and we got started in April 2014!

Sequence of Events
Feb 2014
- 1st consultation with Dr Tan. I had my blood tests done and the total bill (including the consultation fee) was about $508.

Mar 2014 - Briefing at KKH was another $600, cos they also had to run blood tests for the hubby.

19 Apr 2014 (Cycle Day 3, Stims Day 0) - My period came on 17 Apr 2014 and I was rescheduled for the 1st ultrasound scan on the 4th day of my period (cos it coincided with a public holiday) and this is also known as the baseline scan. Signed the medisave form (so that payment could be made directly through my medisave account without having to fork out cash. Do note that your hubby has to be there if it is a joint withdrawal from both your accounts) on this day too. Was given instructions on how to administer daily injections of Menopur (150iu) and asked to return for the 2nd scan after 4 days of stimulation jabs. (Warning: For those new to Menopur, you will feel very lethargic and at times, slightly depressed. At least, that's how I felt!)

24 Apr 2014 (Cycle Day 8, Stims Day 5) - The nurses would do a scan to check on the progress of your follicles. Unfortunately for me, my follicles did not grow very much (5 follicles ranging between 5 to 6mm). I was required to continue with the same dosage and to return for the 3rd scan 2 days after. I also saw my TCM doctor at Thomson Chinese Medicine and she did acupuncture for me.

26 Apr 2014 (Cycle Day 10, Stims Day 7) - At this scan, I saw 11 follicles of sizes 6-9mm. I was given an additional jab of Orgalutran, which is an anti-ovulation drug (to prevent auto-ovulation) to be administered day. That's 2 jabs a day! They also gave instructions to continue with the same daily dosage of Menopur and to return next Tuesday. (Warning: This Orgalutran caused me to have night sweats and hot flushes.)

29 Apr 2014 (Cycle Day 13, Stims Day 10) - The scan showed that there was only 1 dominant follicle of size 14.5mm and another of 10mm. The rest of the follicles were still at 5-6mm. These results are considered very dismal as ideally, the follicles should have already grown till 16-20mm in order to be considered mature. I saw from the charts at KKIVF Centre that the average number of days of stimulation should be about 10.5 for my age group. The medical officer (MO) on duty introduced an additional dosage of Puregon (50 iu) to my mix of injections, bringing my total daily injections to a grand total of 3 jabs a day! I was tasked to return the next day to monitor the progress. I also went for my TCM appointment and did acupuncture.

30 Apr 2014 (Cycle Day 14, Stims Day 11) - Unfortunately, the scan showed that the dominant follicle had experienced speedy growth from 14.5mm to 18mm (3.5mm within a day!) and the 10mm follicle also grew to 12.5mm whereas the small follicles only grew by a measly 1mm. Sigh. The MO instructed that my dosage of Puregon be upped to 150 iu. I also asked for clarification as this may mean that my dominant 18mm follicle would be "over-cooked". She explained that there are too few follicles and hence not possible to have an effective IVF procedure. She chose this protocol to try if the other follicles would grow bigger to make this cycle a viable one, but this would be "sacrificing" the dominant (possible good??) follicle. But there are no guarantees, and if the other follicles still do not grow, I would need to abandon this cycle. All my pain for... nothing? My TCM doctor prefers that I try IUI this cycle with that 1 dominant follicle rather than to waste this cycle, but I couldn't get Dr Tan (he was away in the morning) to ask him and when I tried calling KKH Clinic D to talk to him, their lines were busy. Just sharing so that you ladies can be better prepared next time. My next scan will be on Saturday (2 May 2014), hoping that the other follicles will "wake up" and start accelerating on their growth!

Money Matters
After the initial consultation, blood tests and briefing sessions, everything else is paid through my Medisave Account. :)

If there is anything that you all want to find out, let me know and I can try to see if I can share (or ask KKIVF when I'm there the next time)! In the meantime, good luck everyone (including me, 'cos I really need it now)!

Hi mumwannabe, thanks for the info. Im seeing Dr Tan on 6th May for the first time. Wow I didn't even know that the initial cost is 1.1k even before IVF!
Keep a positive mind, given your age, the success rate should be good!

Additional feedback on dr tan. Great fertility gynae. Is he pro natural birth and pro breastfeeding? Of course not. Haha
