Advise on good kindergarten in the east

my girls back to school last Fri. I asked the teacher today, no further new cases reported.

The news on TV last night reported 1000 new cases last week!

amie, cherly

2 new HFMD cases this week in kindergarten

did your kids attend any other enrichments? I stopped almost everything liao

Hippo, i want to find some enrichment courses for my son too, like speech & drama. But no time to go for trial yet. Not really interested in phonics or chinese classes. Also planning for swimming lessons but he is so afraid of water, don't know is it the right time to start now or not. Will enrol him for music at Yamaha next yr, we just finished the yamaha little notes course in march, decided to skip one stage n go directly for the electrone course when he is 5yrs old.

1 more new cases added in the pink notice today!

total 3 new cases since first half of this week. One of them same class as my girl.

hi applestruz,
i have visited tung ling. however i noticed that they did not have "proper classrooms". the space is merely being partitioned by shelves into the different classes of preN, N, k1 and k2. it is non aircon and it was quite stuffy on the day i went down. also understand from other kindys in the area that tung ling used to quite popular and has "mellowed down" in recent yrs.

MMI(katong) works under childcare arrangement, offering full day and half day programmes. heard positive feedback from some mums in the area.

carrie,

My neighbour's son was from Bedok Lutheran Kindergarten, heard positive comments from her. Her boy this year P1, seem well prepare for it. Have you take a look at the school and talk to the principle.

hi JOy, thanks...
how abt ur child? attendin sch wher?
i went to tour ard the sch n spoke to the principal alreadi...
well.... indeed not bad environment... but still cant decide yet..
anyone has comments on SMartz playhouse? its a childcare located at lucky heights area....

Hi,

We transferred our younger daughter from BCK (Bethedsa Chapel Kindergarten) to SHK this yr. Yes, I agree that SHK prepares their students for P1. They also instil discipline and the students are well behaved. The staff are very dedicated and passionate.

We live in Tampines. Although the journey from Tampines and Ceylon Road seems long, the sch bus journey ia abt 30mins. The school has a sch operator who specialises in ferrying kids in tampines area only. So, this saves the travelling time to pick students from all d differen parts in the eastern block

However, BPRK (Bethedsa Pasir Ris Kindergarten) is more nurturing. My elder daughter studied there and she progressed every well and adjusted very well in Primary school. She was able to read evry well with her teachers. The one she had when she was in N1 and K1 did an execllent job. SOcially and emotionally, she grew strong .

Unfortunately, when my younger daughter studied there, the teacher she had was very damaging.( yes, v unfortunate, that was the only teacher who hit her head when she could not do her work. she is a little slower in learning compared to her peers. also, that teacher was not able to know who my daughter was in Term 2!!)

If you are looking at the academics development, SHK is a highly recommended kindergarten. For a nurturing school ( minus that horrid teacher - not too sure if she is still there), BPRK is a better choice.

Hope this clarifies :D

am also interested in Geylang chinese methodist kindergarten! any one has any feedback... i used to go there last time too.. but need to know wat is it like now.. =)

My daughter is at Gracefields Kindergarten @ Koon Seng Road. She has been there since nursery one and she's now in K2.

The kids are well-disciplined and I feel academically, they are very well-prepared, although I feel that Chinese is a bit weak. The teacher-student ratio is small as well. The only thing is that they have air-conditioned classrooms.

I heard there is a waiting list......

I actually visited St Hilda's but i didn't like the fact that there is no proper classroom for the K1 & K2 ... just mere partition to separate the classes and the ceiling also not v high..

So on the day i visited, i felt pretty "clammed up" and stuffy - the exact feeling & description 2005(first mum) had for Tung Ling.

The nursery group is in another building which looks newer than the premises for K1 & K2... however the assembly area which they also double up as music & movement area is only slightly bigger than a classroom size .. and i must say their classroom size is already pretty small.

All in all, I felt it was ...hmm...a little overrated perhaps?

I then went over to Bethesda Katong Kindergarten to hv a look (which in my own opinion is a little "lesser known" than St Hilda's but highly recommended to me by many mummies in this forum; hence i thought why not hv a look)

Boy, I must say i was sold. I like the fact that they have proper classrooms which are of decent size, a very big assembly hall (just like a normal school hall), equally huge music room and i heard the teacher playing the piano really well and singing w the children... equally spacious computer rooms... and the kids seem really happy and teachers are really dedicated...

The person who really touched me was the Principal - can tell she is very dedicated. So far i visited 3 times, she is never in her office ... always walking around, checking this , checking that, speaking to the pupils, speaking to the teachers, addressing all issues..even telling the bus driver to take care of a child (who had just undergone an operation) ... very very "hands-on" Principal i must say ...

needless to say, i've since signed my boy up for next year nursery and i'm glad i'm one of the last (if not the last) who managed to squeeze into next year's AM session (heard they are full for AM liao)

I was looking at Bethesda Bedok Tampines kindergarten and Soka kindergarten. Any mummy has any comment on these kindergartens?

St Hilda's Kindergarten definitely!
My daughter is there and she blossomed! I esp like their English and Mandarin reading program, and that she is in afternoon session.
For Nursery, she was in a Montessori school in Kembangan and that was good for foundation and discipline.
But I wanted somewhere more "academic" as she only started speaking in 3-word sentences at almost 4 years old, a lot of catching up to do!
So St Hilda's was definitely more "academic" -- they have 1 or 2 worksheets for homework everyday and spelling!
At beginning of K1 she was quite blur and couldn't read, but 1 year later, she can read, spell and write on her own, she is absorbing them all in! She's very happy there and looks forward to singing and her friends & teachers at school!

HI jerejoy

My son is in Soka Kindergarten. I can comment that is a good school to go. My son like this school as it is big enough for the children. It is better to have spacious space to run around and enjoy.

Cheer
