Items to Sell

Hi, this is a great forum. Some suggestions for further improvement:
1) Allow all members to post in the category "Items to Sell". This will also reduce the possibility of such posts going into other categories.
2) When thread is closed, best to delete it from the list as part of housekeeping

Hi Mrs Mok,

Thank you for your feedback.

We will love to have all categories open to everyone. But due to extensive abuse, we need to restrict the WTS section, at least for the moment.

As part of the housekeeping, we are currently removing threads that are inactive for 7 days and more. Threads that receive no response, even though they are periodically being updated by original posters, will be removed as well.

Best regards
Bee Lee

Hi Mrs Mok,

Actually, the "Want to Sell" section was opened to all members previously but it was abused extensively by business owners to promote their services and products in the category that we've no choice but to restrict access.

Hi
This is a great website for mothers and I can see the WTS , WTB section is being well visited.
To prevent abusive use by business owners, many mothers who genuinely need help from your forum to sell their stuff could not benefit from your website. That is really a pity. Perhaps you could grant application to sell on case to case basis so as to keep abusive use in check. This will definitely be useful to optimise the benefits to all mothers. If you need volunteers to do the checks or attend to "appeals"/ application, perhaps some mothers might be glad to help.

Hi Chin Leng,

What is the rationale for allowing members of less than 1 year to buy from the forum but not to sell? I believe many mummies will like to use the forum to sell items that their bbs have outgrown, but have been deprived because of this ruling. The usefulness of the forum is hence limited. I think the forum is a great avenue for mummies to gather. Pls reconsider this decision. Thanks.

Hi Harmonee,

You really can't imagine how many suspension we made before we have restricted the WTS. When it was not restricted, once the accounts are banned, they just create another account. It was a situation we can't continue. Also, if we had not restricted the marketplace, our server would not have been able to support the current approximately daily 5900 (and increasing) number of postings. Before the restriction, we had more than 50% of the postings were in the marketplace. Now it is a healthier less than 50%.

Regarding getting volunteers to help reply to appeals and applications, we'll need to setup a trouble ticket system for the process to work. It is in the plans but would not happen soon as we'll need to make the portal able to generate enough revenue so that it can operate as long as possible. Currently, this forum is supported by the revenue from SingaporeBrides.com.

If we had been a pure business entity, the management would have shut down the forum long time ago to stop the bleeding already.

Hi Smurfygal,

As mentioned in my post above, there were too many business owners who abused the forum. It increased our bandwidth costs and we were paying the bills while they make use of our resources. If we had allowed it to continue, we wouldn't be able to continue operating the forum and continue our dream to build a Singapore Motherhood portal. If that had happened, more mummies would have been deprived.

It was not a choice we like but it was a no choice decision.

Chin Leng.

smurfy: u might wan to encourage ur peers who have the same problem or issue to sell the items on the Yahoo SG auction site. This is a better site for sales and also FREE.

You arent the only one talking abt activating the WTS for new users. But there are lots and lots of 1 POST mummies just created a nick to sell.
