The long year-end holiday is coming. How does a trip to Koh Samui with the kids sound to you? More than just pristine coastlines, soft white sand and insta-worthy sunsets, the Thai island offers plenty of activities for travellers. From energetic youths to families seeking a peaceful getaway with the kids, everybody will enjoy this retreat to the tropical paradise. Not sure about what to do on the island? 1. Bring out your Junior Master Chef at Spice Spoons’ Cooking Classes

Singaporeans are known to be gourmet experts. While you and the kids will definitely enjoy a gastronomic journey in Samui, actually creating a masterpiece brings the foodie experience to a different level. Classes at Spice Spoons are more than just the usual cooking classes. They are an interactive immersion to Thai culinary world where you get to explore a local market, visit organic produce and coconut farms, and learn how to whip up traditional Thai dishes. Kids can accompany adults for these classes and you can guide the little ones along in making the dish. However, if the younger chef-wannabes prefer to have more freedom in the kitchen, they can join kids’ cooking classes and learn to create international dishes such as pizzas in a fun and safe environment.

2. Take a Trek around Ang Thong National Marine Park

One of the most popular offshore destinations around Samui, Ang Thong National Marine Park was featured in the novel The Beach by Alex Garland, which was made into a movie starring Leonardo DiCaprio. The island is home to a cornucopia of exotic wildlife and marine creatures. You and your family can have fun diving, snorkelling or just lazing around, enjoying the magnificent turquoise water and clear blue sky. The island is also known for its thick jungles and beautiful limestone mountains. This is the place to be if you want to do a short day trip or an overnight camp. Rent a tent and enjoy the sleeping in nature. Hard-core campers are welcome to bring their own tents. Prefer something built up? There are bungalows available for rent in the marine park.
3. Rev up your Engine by Go-Karting with the Kids

A little adrenaline rush adds fun to any trip! There are a number of go-kart compounds in Chaweng, Lamai and Bophut, where you and the children can satisfy the need for speed. At EasyKart, kids’ go-karts are available for kids from seven to 13 years old. These are smaller and slower than an adult one. However, if you want extra security, or are with kids who are younger, opt for a double go-kart where you can drive together with the child instead. Put on your safety gear, get set, rev up, and go!
4. Get Up Close and Personal with Marine Life at Samui Aquarium

One of the top family-friendly attractions on the island, Samui Aquarium is perfect for families who do not want to dive or snorkel but still want to explore the wonderful biodiversity of Samui’s marine life. The kids will be able to see different kind of fish and undersea creatures up close – a fruitful learning experience for the kids and adults alike!
5. Float your Hopes and Dreams for the Family with a Paper Lantern

If you are coming to Samui over the Christmas season, Loi Krathong and Yi Peng Festivals have already have passed as they are held in mid-November. However, there’s no need to be disappointed. Although you will not be able to witness the glorious spectacle of swarms of paper/sky lanterns, or khom loi, as the locals say, soaring up into the sky, you can still arrange to light your own lantern. You can buy one from the paper lantern sellers along Chaweng beach, pick a spot at night, let the kids write their wishes on the lantern, and let it go. The paper lantern slowly floating into the sky like a fluorescent jellyfish is truly a sight to remember and one that the children will surely cherish.
6. Have a Villa Pool Party

What’s Christmas without a family gathering? Book a villa large enough to hold the extended family, then make use of that magnificent pool and throw an electrifying party! Start with sundowners for adults and mocktails for kids, then fire up a BBQ. As you slowly sip your drink and enjoy the picturesque sunset, let your villa’s experienced staff arrange a feast for family and friends.
