The mid-year break is just a fortnight away! This means an upcoming four weeks of fun, fun, fun for the children! In between homework (yes, there will probably be some of that), bonding, lazing around and other assorted grand plans, why not let the kid try out one of the exciting options below? Camp at the Zoo

The Singapore Zoo conducts living classrooms for children as young as 6 years old (or 3 years old if accompanied by parents). At the Zoo Explorer Camp, mini-Zoologists get hands-on experience on how to care for animals and get creative with wildlife art and craft. The Junior Zoo Keeper camp lets young ones learn what it takes to be an animal keeper, while Sleep with the Beasts is a weekend family camp where you get to find what happens behind the scenes at the Zoo!

Meet Inuka the Polar Bear

Don’t miss Singapore-born polar bear, Inuka, who is making a comeback this June. His friends – the wolverines, raccoon dogs – and Inuka himself, live in Frozen Tundra at the Singapore Zoo. Embark on a Frozen Tundra feeding session and guided walkthrough, watch a polar bear ice sculpting demonstration, take a photograph with the polar bear mascot, or get sparkly with a colourful glitter tattoo in celebration of Inuka’s comeback.

BASF Kids’ Lab

Have you ever wondered how diapers can absorb a large amount of water and how waste water in the sewage becomes clean? Well, come and find out at BASF Kids’ Lab! At the BASF Kids’ Lab workshops, children (ages 6 to 12) can learn through interactive, handson experiments how chemistry contributes to our everyday life. This year, participants will get to know more about water – our limited natural resource, through the water storage and water purification experiments. Participation is free! For kids aged six to 12 years.

Cook with Mum

Did you know that Prima Taste offers parent-child cooking workshops? These are conducted on a first-come, first-served basis with maximum of eight pairs per session. Each session lasts three hours, with ingredients, recipes, a DVD of the cooking workshop and free shuttle service included in the price. You’ll get to create delicacies like crispy spring roll, prawn mee laksa and laksa fried rice, fragrant Hainanese chicken fried rice, spaghetti vongole and prima satay. Best for children aged four and up. Parental supervision required.

IDA Children Season 2013

The IDA (Infocomm Development Authority of Singapore) has a semi-permanent showroom along the underground retails space above Esplanade MRT Station. This June holiday, as part of Children’s Season, there will be Children’s Infocomm Workshops designed for four to 12 year olds. At these workshops, children can get hands-on experience with various infocomm tools such as an interactive board, a multi-touch interactive table, video-conferencing, mobile shopping, and the creation of 3D videos. On weekends, look out for the Children’s Fiesta where children five to 12 can try manga drawing, speech & drama, balloon sculpting, and other activities.

Sch Hols Rock Climbing

The Rock Challenge & Carnival

The Rock School – which is run by a group of passionate climbers and educators – regularly hosts this event and it is popular among rock climbing enthusiasts of all levels. The Carnival part of the event is a fun climbing activity for children from age four to 18. The Challenge part is a competition in three categories: Junior (7-9 years old), Senior (10-12 years old) and Lower Sec (13-14 years old), for individuals and groups.

All Stars Superheroes Skate Camp

Skating novices and champs are welcome to join this thematic skate camp. This is designed for children aged three to 12, with one instructor dedicated to six children. Older ones get to learn advanced, freestyle skating or inline hockey tricks. Choose from four, two, or one full-day camp options, or a four half-days camp. Psst! Full-day campers get free superhero capes and a superhero goodies loot bag too! Price includes skate equipment rental.

Speech, Drama and Writing

Love Kids, run by Ms Margaret Nonis, a certified speech and drama teacher and music and drama teacher, has three holiday workshops: Speech & Drama for 4 to 6 year olds, Public Speaking, and Drama & Writing, both for 7 to 9 and 10 to 12 year olds. Each session is three hours long.

Space Invention Camp
